1911 - 4th day of Amundsen's early season attempt on the South Pole, driven by concern that Scott might beat him. The party awake to a temp of -55C (-67.9F) calm and clear. The dogs had a bad night because of the cold. Hanssen's team and sledge are nearly lost in a crevasse.
