Robert Falcon Scott, British Antarctic Expedition (South Pole Expedition) on the ship Terra Nova, 1910 - 1913.

1912 - The bodies of Robert Scott, Henry Bowers and Edward Wilson are found in their tent on the Ross Ice Shelf (then known as the Great Ice Barrier), they died on the return from the South Pole 8 months previously. The tent was collapsed and a snow cairn built.

Tryggve Gran wore Scott's skis on the journey back to base so an element of the party made the return journey, leaving his own as a marker.
