Philip K Swartz - 1960-61 - South Pole Station - Antarcticans Database Project
Looking out over the bone yard where various items would be stored due to lack of room inside the station. Oxygen tanks in the foreground were for welding; banana sleds to haul stores into the station (we did not have any capability of using modernized vehicles inside); 4x4 timbers to buttress weak areas of the station (see later slides); pink smoke is a flare being tested. About a quarter of a mile grid North of the station was a small separate storage area reserved for explosives.
