Reservoir on the Back Slope

1965 - This reservoir was used for catching water that runs off the back slope in the spring and summer. In the winter it would freeze and be useless, but then snow should be available for fresh water supply then. The "problem" was that there was no system of purifying the water that ran off, the colour out of the tap could be variable. Then again we didn't get ill once we were used to it and the only times anyone was ill was when a ship called in and someone on base caught something from the ship.
Nonetheless, these days the sea is used as a source of freshwater via reverse osmosis plants (that burn fuel to run them).
