The station after sunset, looking grid East

. In the foreground is the new communications building with surrounding tunnels of plywood covered with parachute cloth to seal over small cracks and openings, otherwise snow blows in (see slide [83]). Rawindome behind the comm building - it was atop the south end of the mess hall. Note Bower’s pole beyond with no flag flying (after sunset.) Low tunnel structure to the right was to be an access to an area for dumping trash and garbage, but was rapidly covered over and buried with drifting snow. By the end of Winter, the new comm building was buried up to the roof line (See slide [122].) (Temperature on 21 MAR 1961 was -63°F, wind ~20 knots.)
