Chemistry: Silicon dioxide, a form of chalcedony - SiO2
Colors: Red, yellow, brown or green, occasionally and rarely blue.
...and another thing: In the ancient world jasper was usually considered as being green, possibly including other stones that we would now consider to be different kinds of gemstones.
