Kulusuk Airport- East Greenland<br />, greenland, travel

Plane landing at Kulusuk airport Eastern Greenland. Most of the planes that land here are from Iceland, they are generally 2 propeller high wing aircraft as this one. The 2 hour or less flight time means that it is possible to take a day trip or one or two night trip from Iceland to get a taste of Greenland. The airport is at Kulusuk despite it being a very small place whereas the nearby Ammassalik / Tasiilaq , the largest settlement in Eastern Greenland, has no airport, just a heliport that receives visitors ferried from Kulusuk. The reason is that Kulusuk was the site of an American early warning station from the cold war now abandoned, but still has the airstrip that was built to service the station.
