Brunnich's Guillemots, Uria lomvia, and Glaucous Gulls, Larus hyperboreus nesting on cliffs


Being an island surrounded by seas that are very productive in the summer months of 24 hour daylight means that Svalbard has huge quantities of seabirds nesting on cliff ledges wherever differential erosion of layers of sedimentary rock conveniently provides ledges.
