  • Antarctica bears upon it such a vast variation of fascinating flora and fauna. Having adapted to the regular and freezing climate of the continent, I understand the devastating effects Global Warming has had on Antarctica’s inhabitants as well as, ultimately, the unique and pristine environment that provides such an awe-inspiring marvel. This, as any would understand it, is the reasoning behind Antarctic tourism. I believe that this controversial travel simply encourages the discarding of rubbish which results in landfill and the emitting of greenhouse gases with their final disposal, further contributing to Global Warming. As to how to stop Global Warming, I myself am unsure of the actions I believe we should take but I would be honoured to hear any responses or suggestions regarding possible solutions. As Paul implies; ‘All it takes is a seed’, meaning this idea could start something small but generate into a life-changing reality. We cannot let this beautiful continent become as polluted and wasted as the rest of the Earth.

    Sincerely, Phebe, 13
  • I for one love Antarctica, a beautiful, peaceful place, but now it is being ruined. Animals are being traumatized, endangered and some have become extinct! I've seen pictures of waste just being left there on the ground, I'm sickened by this stuff. And as a 13-year-old girl, it crushes me and in my eyes, degrades the human race and represents its' true colours. People should be ashamed of them-selves. We seem to never learn from our mistakes aye? What about the Antarctica Treaty? Does nobody care for that? I really don't think that tourists should be allowed to go to Antarctica, there are plenty of other places out there and Antarctica is just one of them. Besides, scientists etc., are ruining Antarctica for everyone anyways. If you really want to go to Antarctica, then become a scientists etc., a good one I mean. Not the type of person that would destroy it for everyone!

  • I think that global warming could kill many animals, and that man may in fact destroy a good part of this planet.I want to save our planet. I think that it all may come to an end if we do not reduce it.

Brendan

  • I am 14 but I definitely think Antarctica should be saved, as many of the others do you have posted here. There are so few places on Earth that have not been destroyed by man we should keep this wonderful eco system. I personally, have a great interest in this matter, and read lots of books and internet polls about the
situation. If the world is forced to develop on Antarctica just because the big men say so, i do not know what this world is coming to.

  • Hiya my name is Kristina and I'm 14 and I don't think ppl our age gets a say but I don't really care and I will say what I want to say. We shouldn't touch Antarctica because its a place for animals to live think of animals as humans and you where an animal you wouldn't like your home to be destroyed. But its just not about the animals, I agree with most of the things ppl have said on here its a place to be left alone. I'm learning about Antarctica at school too and the things that have happened to it already is horrible. SAVE ANTARCTICA PLEASE!!!

  • Hi my name is Jayde and I'm from Australia.I'm 14 and we are doing Antarctica at school, I've never really thought about it before doing this project but people are ruining this beautiful country, just to get more minerals for us! don't we already have enough????? we have ruined basically our whole earth so we can make our lives a better place, it was here before us! we should definitely leave Antarctica alone!

my contribution probably won't change your mind but i can try, and don't look down on all these other opinions just because were kids (and ok teenagers too) thanks

  • Think for a moment! Do you think tourism in Antarctica is a good idea? We all know how much carbon (bad stuff destroying our universe) is released from flying an aeroplane over Antarctica but what about Cruise Ships. Cruise ships are just as bad! Transportation of any kind produces waste of all kinds from carbon to garbage. Each cruise ship carries an average of 3,000 people and produces as much sewage and waste as a medium-sized city. Tons of sewage, garbage and even hazardous waste is produced and disposed of each day by a single ship. This constant discharge of waste into our oceans is multiplied by dozens of ships operating every year around Antarctica.

A ship's anchor will weigh up to 5 tonne and cause enormous damage as it scrapes along the sea floor. Imagine the damage caused by a five tonne anchor dragging across your garden as it attempts to stop a cruise ship from moving. And what if the anchor breaks? Are these cruise ships fitted with extra steal hulls to tackle random icebergs! HELLO THIS IS ANTARCTICA and it's got a few random floating icebergs here and there! Now tell me hand on heart you think anyone should have a right to visit as a tourist knowing full well the damage we are creating. Lets make the small sacrifice of not being an Antarctic tourist and begin the process of giving the next few generations an Antarctica to be learnt about!

  • I think we should leave Antarctica but people should be able to go on holiday there.

Jon - Liverpool

  • I believe that people should leave Antarctica alone, is it really causing that much of a problem???If scientists believe that the ice will melt and cause the sea level to rise, then they should try to find a way to get rid of global warming. it is still a good idea to do research in Antarctica and a bit of tourism, but that's about it.

Daniel - age 10

  • I think that Antarctica should be left how it is. Although people say it could help us in years to come. (If we develop it.) Think what it would do to the  wildlife. Treaties may be helping save Antarctica. But some of them are also ruining it. We should stop because everywhere else on the globe is being used for our purposes. So I don't see why we should ruin this last place.

Katie - Essex, England

  • I think that we shouldn't touch Antarctica because if we do the not only will we destroy the only wilderness for now but also the only wilderness for the future.  Save Antarctica, save Earth.

DEXtreme - London, England

  • I'm doing it at school too! I'm 14 I'm from Newquay (England). I think we should leave it alone its the only place in the whole world we haven't ruined!!!  LEAVE IT ALONE!!!!!

Stargirl

  • Hi I'm 14 and this is what I think. I am studying Antarctica at school and I think that Antarctica should be left alone! It should be only used for research, and maybe a limited amount of tourists each year. if we start going we will melt the ice and Antarctica won't be a cold place anymore. it would be just like any other country is that what we really want?

Dani - Northwood

  • Hi I am 13 and I have very strong feelings about what we are doing to Antarctica. This is a place for animals to live in and there is no point in destroying this country like we have for all of the rest. I really hope that no-one will destroy this country.

Vicky - Althorpe, Scunthorpe, England

  • I think that what we are doing to Antarctica is wrong. Like what people say if we develop on it the wilderness will be lost forever. Leave it alone punk.

Natalie Fletcher age 10

  • Hi I'm Chaz and am 13 and this is my opinion.I think that we should not use Antarctica for our uses. It is basically the only place that has not been used and now we are destroying it. It isn't right to destroy some animals homes because if it was the way round we would complain. I am only 13 so I can not do a lot but other people can so if you read my message please help to do something about it before we are to late. Thank you

    Chaz - Hornchurch
  • Hi I'm 10 and these are my views about Antarctica.

I think that Antarctica should not belong to any country.
It should be only used for research and no parts of Antarctica should be split up between countries. The animals which live in Antarctica should be left alone, people should not go and disturb them and use them for testing.
If humans tamper with Antarctica it will resolve in pollution and the untouched continent will be ruined.

Dejan Cancar - Upminster, Essex

  • Well I'm 14 but I have strong feelings about how Antarctica is being used. I think that someone should stand up and say what's going to be done in the future to ensure or future off our kids and generations to come. But its not all about that...

Did you no that if we towed a ice berg to a third world country we would give then a better life because that ice water is 100% pure and that would save many lives as people there are dying because of contaminated water now the only thing is HOW DO WE TOW A ICE BERG.

Well I don't know but someone should...

Now I think Antarctica is a very precious asset this world because we don't know what kind of minerals are under that ice cap. now there could be anything under there. Dinosaurs trees a lost land . No no-one really knows.. So I think everyone who goes to the Antarctic to make sure they come back so they can share their knowledge with others... send more safety gear with them and more of everything.. but we must make sure that all waste comes back with them..... but I'm only 14 and this is a view of one person so what can I do but tell you how I feel
