Little Rockford 1

This is little rockford station. It was a 6 man weather station, located several hundred ,iles from McMurdo base, only open during the summer months. It provided weather support for airplanes flying cargo drops. During flying ops we transmitted weather every hour on the hour.
there were 3 airgrapher's mates (weatherman),, 1 radioman, 1 electronics mate. and 1 mechanics mate.
the building were called wanigans. they are actually built on ski's and pulled there by catapiller, lgp8 as shown in center of pic, it has very wide tracks and an huge fuel tank. i don't know what year they were put here.
buildings, right to left, sleeping quarter's, chow hall
,weather and radioshack. there is one more building that you can't see which was the hydrogen generator, which made hydrogen to fill balloons that we sent aloft with a transmitter below it to track weather. we spent 3 months here.
