Bellsund, Malbukta, Beluga Fishing Boats - Svalbard - 2

A close up of one of the Beluga fisheries boats from the 1930's. Numerous repairs can be seen where pieces of canvas have been nailed in place over cracks in the wood, there are traces of canvas in the less exposed areas, the weather has stripped the more exposed canvas away.

As the Beluga fishery was summer only and the boats were stored as they are today for the rest of the year they would have been exposed to the elements causing the wood to dry out and crack so requiring such repairs.
