Signy Island Antarctica base winter 5
Leaving base on ski. As we were so often restricted to
base by the weather, cold and dreary if not necessarily wind and
blizzard,, we used to try and make the effort to get out and take some
exercise when possible as it was all too easy to become lethargic. This
is at the end of the day (you can tell from the light) and a friend and
I were just headed out around a small groups of rocks and back.
Sometimes in strong winds, you could be forcing your way into the wind
on the way out, but then on the way back, it was get up speed, stand
upright and hold arms out - like a sail the wind could blow you along
for a very satisfying distance.
