Inside Shackleton's
Hut - 2

Much of the food that was eaten was tinned as somewhat
ironically frozen food was in it's infancy in the first
decade of the 20th century. Modern Antarctic bases
still rely heavily on tinned food, but also much more on
frozen and with modern transportation, proper fresh food
is not such a rarity.
On the other hand - the fresh
food the early explorers had, seal meat, penguin meat, wild
birds eggs etc. are completely off the menu for today's
expeditioners.
