Driving a dog team involves
much more than standing on a sled and giving instructions,
there's an awful lot of pushing, running and walking to do
too. Here the driver is being pulled alongside the sled on
skis so he can quickly respond to any problems in soft snow
without sinking.
In more difficult conditions,
the driver may have to walk or run alongside the sled, often
manhandling it around obstacles and pushing it to start if
the dogs can't manage to get it started.
