The Risting Glacier 54°46'S 36°6'W
flows into the head of Drygalski Fjord on South Georgia.
This picture captures it in a
fearsome mood with the jagged teeth of the recently
snow-dusted mountains behind adding an air of menace. South
Georgia may be the sub-Antarctic but it can be every bit as
daunting as the deep south.
These are pictures from
a trip to Antarctica in the summer of 2010 - 2011 for the purpose of
researching former whaling stations and companies by Ulf Gustafsson
of the University of Groningen in the Netherlands.
