Ross Island from the Ross Ice Shelf

Back to gallery    Back to thumbnails      Next page

This is a photo of the southern tip of Ross Island, as seen from the Ross Ice Shelf. It was taken mid-February 2009. The prominent hill in the middle is Ob Hill (Observation Hill), which overlooks McMurdo Station which is on the left, while Scott Base is on the far right. The two stations are about two miles apart. This is just the southernmost tip of a spur from the main part of the island, which is quite a bit larger.
