Ceramic vase, 'African Svelte'

$59.95
Alluring decorative clay vase from the workshop of master artisan Samuel Lovi. Fashioned in the artist's distinctive "Silo" design, defined by its svelte contours, narrow neck and spikes running down the sides. Balance and continuity is added by the finely textured finish and striking weathered color scheme. Clay abounds in the southern part of Ghana; it takes an expert, however, to get the sand thoroughly washed out of the clay. In elaborating this piece, Lovi first prepares and molds the clay. He then fires the molded piece in a kiln at high temperatures, ensuring that it is hardened to the required strength. After cooling, it is hand-painted.

Since this is item is hand-painted to create an ancestral illusion, the floral motifs may differ slightly; they could also be incomplete as part of the artist's personal stylizations.
