Solemn and dignified, a lone rider sits in a rickshaw pulled by a muscular man on foot. S. K. Shaw recreates a bygone city scene in an antique-style brass sculpture. $52.95
An alliance in friendship and shared history accompanies these men traveling on the back of this stylish turtle, their faces gleaming in the artistry of dhokra. Detailed in the perfection of a hand-crafted legacy, the figurine attests to the refined excellence of the dhokra artists - their hands guided by a desire to preserve their fine art. Embellish a favorite room with this unique sample of a millenary art form. Meaning "oldest," dhokra is a crafting tradition dating as far back as 2000 B.C.. Dhokra art is largely associated with the tribal groups of northern India, including Vindhyas and the Eastern Ghats, Bihar and its surroundings, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal. Myriad images are cast in the dhokra tradition as artisans preserve their millenary culture, custom and belief through the wondrous pieces they create.

Brass statuette, 'Krishna as a Cowherd'

$89.95
A gentle cow listens as Lord Krishna coaxes sweet melodies from his flute. K.C. Sharma portrays the Hindu deity in polished brass. As a youth, the cowherd Krishna became renowned as a lover. He is usually depicted playing the flute, spreading the melody of love to mankind.

$88.95
K.C. Sharma portrays two revered Hindu deities in gleaming brass statuettes. Lovely Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, poses gracefully on a lotus blossom - a seat of divine truth. Heralded as the deity of preservation in Hindu tradition, he too stands on a lotus pedestal.

Brass statuette, 'Prancing Pony'

Brass statuette, 'Guarding the World' (large)

$87.95
This brass statuette by K.C. Sharma portrays Lord Ganesha in a mighty pose. Standing tall, his sixteen hands carry spiritual weapons, signifying the destruction of evil in the world. A wheel, or chakra, rests behind his head, while the pedestal on which he stands glorifies his outline. Lord Ganesha is known as the remover of obstacles within the Hindu pantheon. The oldest son of Lord Shiva, he is often worshipped at the beginning of auspicious performances in hopes of receiving his blessing. He has the head of an elephant and represents tremendous wisdom, intelligence and presence of mind.

Brass statuettes, 'Musicians of Life' (set of 3)

$77.95
The traditions of the past come to life through Vineet's dhokra art. One of India's oldest art forms, dhokra represents the culture, beliefs and traditions of the people of the Vindhyas and the Eastern Ghats, Bihar, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal. This trio of brass musicians serenades life with a dolak drum, a flute, and a drum.

Brass statuette, 'Angelic Beat'

$42.95
Talented and divine, this angel of the Buddhist faith enthralls believers with the beat of his drum. Known as deva, he is cast of brass and wears the fashion of Thailand's past. Pah crafts this piece with the lost wax motif, adding a bronze patina for the attire.

Brass statuette, 'Daydream'

$118.95
Fluid line caresses nude contours, defining a woman lost in thought. Pah explores the beauty of the female body in an exquisite brass sculpture. Poised in a seated position, the woman grasps an ankle as she smoothes her long, dark hair.

Brass statuette, 'Goddess Durga'

$89.95
Brandishing weapons, Durga sits on the back of a roaring lion. Also known as Kali, Parvati or Lalitha, the goddess is the wife of Lord Shiva and mother of Ganesha. As Durga, she is the slayer of demons that threaten humankind. Manoj Aggarwal depicts the goddess in a brass statuette.

Brass sculpture, 'Slender Water Girl'

$98.95
Tall and slender, a young maiden strikes a casual pose. She carries a jar of water on one hand, balancing it with an arm over her head. Pah sculpts an enchanting statuette, detailing the drapery of her clothing and her pensive expression. Working with the lost wax process, he casts the lovely piece in brass.

Brass statuette, 'She Beckons'

$98.95
Wearing a slender empire-style gown, a young woman beckons gracefully. Pah casts the elegant figure in brass, adding a bronze-like patina. Her hair is caught up in clusters of curls and her skirt flows gracefully around her feet. This delightful sculpture is reminiscent of Victorian statuary introduced to Thailand from England.

Brass statuette, 'Krishna's Celestial Music'

$77.95
With a faraway gaze, Lord Krishna whiles away long moments coaxing sweet melodies from his murali (flute). K.C. Sharma portrays the Hindu deity in polished brass. As a youth, the cowherd Krishna became renowned as a lover. At the sound of his flute, the wives and daughters of the cowherds would leave their homes to dance ecstatically with him in the forests. He is usually depicted playing the flute, spreading the melody of love to mankind.

Brass statuette, 'Cowherd Krishna'

$54.95
Lord Krishna coaxes sweet melodies from his flute as a gentle cow listens.

Brass statuette, 'Oxcart'

$58.95
S. K. Shaw recreates a bygone scene from the countryside in an antique-style brass sculpture. Hand-crafted in the painstaking dhokra technique, it depicts a man driving an oxcart. Because each piece is an individual work of art, the size and shape could vary slightly.

Brass statuette, 'Peace Angel'

$67.95
A vision of celestial peace, a deva kneels with his hands on his chest. A Buddhist angel, the deva greets the faithful with the usual sawasdee greeting. Pah casts the image of brass with a bronze patina finish, and dresses the celestial being in a traditional wrap and crown.

Brass statuette, 'Sea Venture'

$67.95
Sitting astride a crocodile, a monkey ventures out for a ride at sea in this unusual, compelling work from S.K. Shaw. Textured scales overlap in a brilliant crosshatch motif, creating visual interest on the slender brass reptile. An excellent example of the ancient dhokra technique, the statuette features a hollow interior with a hinged lid. It is created through a laborious lost wax process associated with the tribal groups of northern India. A model is sculpted of clay and dried in the sun; it is then covered with beeswax and more clay, forming a mold. The piece is cast, cleaned and again dried in the sun. Finally, it is heated in the ground for five days and polished. Because each piece is an individual work of art, the size and shape could vary slightly from that pictured.

Brass angel statuette, 'Peace Deva' (small)

$49.95
A vision of celestial beauty, this deva kneels down with hands on her chest. A Buddhist angel, the deva greets the faithful with the usual sawasdee greeting. Pah casts her image of brass with a bronze patina finish. He dresses her in traditional ornamental attire.

$52.95
A verdant deva serenades those of Buddhist faith with the sweet melodies of his pee nae flute. Cast of brass, this statuette is dressed in ornate traditional fashions. Pah crafts this Buddhist angel and adds a bronze patina for the golden motifs.

Brass statuette, 'Angel Music'

$42.95
Sweet melodies fill the air as a deva (Thai angel) is lost in his music. He draws the bow across the sa-lor to play traditional songs from northern Thailand. Dressed in golden clothing, the serene being radiates beauty. Pah casts the piece in brass with a bronze patina.

Engraved brass art, 'Thai Swan'

$122.95
Strolling through the mythical Himmaphan forest, home of many sacred animals, a swan pauses to pick up a fallen leaf. Poonsak explores Thai literature and legends in a work he names Hongsa, the literary term for "Swan." The images are created in gleaming brass and copper on a cotton background framed in Siamese sal wood.

Brass statuette, 'Pilgrimage Carriage' (small)

$54.95
Harnessed to a cart, a proud steed prances at the ready. His task is to carry his master on a yatra, or pilgrimage. In Hindu tradition, an image of the deity was displayed on the carriage during the journey, and this one features a spiritual spear. This lovely work from S.K. Shaw is crafted with the ancient dhokra technique, a laborious lost wax process practiced in the region. First, a model is sculpted of clay and dried in the sun; it is then covered with beeswax and more clay, forming a mold. The piece is cast, cleaned and again dried in the sun. Finally, it is heated in the ground for five days and polished. Because each piece is an individual work of art, the size and shape could vary slightly from that pictured.

Brass statuette, 'Angelic Melody'

$47.95
Radiant in golden clothes, this deva ("angel") comforts all playing sacred tunes on his vina. Cast of brass, this statuette is dressed in traditional ornate fashion. Pah crafts this Buddhist angel adding a bronze patina for the golden motifs.

Brass statuette, 'Palki'

$39.95
A miniature replica of the bridal palanquins used in Bengal, this palki captivates with delicate artistry. Cast in brass, this piece exhibits the magnificence of dhokra. The palki features the fascinating jali pattern on its upper panel, as well as the rod used for carrying it upon the shoulders. Presented by S.K. Shaw, this sculpture makes for an original contribution to a world art collection. Dhokra artistry is an entirely hand-crafted procedure that starts with a clay model and strings of bee's wax that will channel the molten brass. Once the desired shape is obtained, it is left outside to dry under the sun - production suffers much during monsoon season. When completely dried, the piece is checked for alignment and heated under the ground for a period of five days. Finally, the work is treated to a fine polish to highlight the legendary allure of dhokra. Please note there might be slight differences in the dimensions and shape of the piece due to the hand-crafted nature of the work. However, the original theme and the quality of the work remains unaffected.

Brass card holder, 'Divine Offering'

$118.95
Pah sculpts a classic nude, her nubile body cast in lustrous brass. Raising her arms, the young woman holds a green leaf aloft. A rich bronze-like patina lends an antique effect to this beautiful sculpture. It is designed to hold business cards.

Brass statuette, 'Singha, the Lion'

$44.95
Golden singha roars a warning to all who pass by. In Thailand, where deities live in the same place as humans, lions are outstanding icons. The singha have long been considered temple guardians, but their highest mission is protecting the sacred Buddhist teachings. Pah casts the elegant figure in brass, emulating a Cambodian Khmer monument.

Brass statuette, 'Mystical Deer'

$197.95
Holding its head high in attention, a golden deer poses with stately sophistication. Rahul Jain designs this statuette, crafted by hand of brass. The piece is painted with enamels, and when they are dried Jain scratches the paint away to reveal the detailed floral revelry that embellishes the deer.

Brass statuette, 'Dance, Dance, Dance'

$99.95
Dancing seductively, a young woman twirls so that her skirt swirls gracefully around her ankles. Pah casts the elegant figure in brass, adding a bronze-like patina. Dark curls frame her face in a dreamy portrait inspired by Victorian statuary.

Brass statuette, 'Shiva's Highest Form'

$99.95
A five-headed cobra spreads his hood to protect Shiva, celestial overlord of deliverance through destruction. Shiva is one of the most complex gods of India, embodying seemingly contradictory qualities. He is both the destroyer and the restorer, the ascetic and the symbol of sensuality, the benevolent herdsman of souls and the wrathful avenger. In this form, the deity is known as Panchaanana, the Five-Headed One, representing earth, water, fire, air and aakaasa (space). Panchaanana is a metaphysical concept representing the god's highest form. Brass is Rahul Jain's medium for this intricately-detailed sculpture.
