Hello I've just found this website.
I've been reading the diaries of Captain R.F. Scott, Lt Evans (later Admiral), Apsley-Cherry-Garrard, and others. I'd like to post snippets as a running commentary here in the forums. In my view Captain Scott was the greatest explorer that has ever lived and there is lots to learn from his work. His missions have to be seen as pioneeering successes in discovery, science and in human endeavour. There's much more to the tale - leadership, comradeship, determination, hunger, organisation, self-sacrifice... Scott is perhaps the icon of Britishness and his tale is surely one to be told for generations. I'll be back here soon... |

Shackleton is generally given credit as the greatest of the Antarctic explorers by those currently in Antarctica, but Scott certainly had many good points as well. |
