As it's halloween soon, I thought I'd start this off.
The Antarctic base I worked on for two years was the site of an old summer-only Norwegian whaling station. There had been 5 deaths of whalers while the station was operational and the men were buried about 1/2 a mile away at a place called Cemetary Flats where their graves were marked with crosses that were maintained when needed by the base personnel. The oldest building on base called "Tonsberg House" was said to be the haunt of one of these whalers named Dan. There were those on base who that they had heard noises, furniture moving, doors slamming etc. especially when on night-watch. I've always been sceptical about such things, but nightwatch, especially in the winter months always meant very quickly passing through Tonsberg on the hourly rounds. There was a door half way down the corridor to stop draughts, the farthest half was where Dan was said to haunt. Maybe it was the place and the Antarctic winds that blew and whistled around the building, draughts through gaps in the floors, and the results of long hours of darkness on your own while your companions slept. But those furthest flung checks on nightwatch were always the most uneasy and I made my way very quickly through Dan's place even though I never heard or saw anything - the way I saw it the less time I spent there, the less likely I was to witness anything! Are there any other Antarctic ghosts? |

Paul,
That explains a lot...... Dan hey? May he rest in peace. I do believe in ghosts but not in the conventional way people think of them.....We have a ghost or spirits as I like to call them, living in our shed... I try and ignore them....My brother had some in his room and they used to do all sorts of things like wake him in the middle of the night and pull the blanket off hima and eventually they appeared when they realised they weren't scaring him....You've only yourself to blame for starting this thread.. psr |

Seems Antarctic ghosts are thin on the ground, but here's one:
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/location/s...ectID=10007737 Shackleton also famously spoke about a "fourth companion" with them as he, Tom Crean and Frank Worsley crossed South Georgia on the final leg of their journey to rescue his Endurance crew stranded on Elephant Island. |

Woah Paul, that's creepy. I always beleived in ghosts. And ghosts aren't white, I beleive they are transparent. I am known for making good stories on the ZT2 forum, but thay are long and I hsven't been to Antarctica (
) so I don't think I should tell one. |
