Default R.I.P. Edith "Jackie" Ronne

I just happened to find this - Edith "Jackie" Ronne, the first woman from the U.S. to go to Antarctica (1947-48), died on the 14th of June. She was also one of the first two women to winter over.

Alan,

Kevin Walton who was at the FIDS base at Stonington Island when Jackie Ronne was there also died earlier this year. It's interesting reading Kevin's book (Two years in the Antarctic) and contrasting it with Jenny Darlington's book, My Antarctic Honeymoon. Jenny Darlington was the wife of Harry Darlington, pilot with the Ronne expedition, and was at Sonington at the same time as Edith Ronne.
