Hi Pierrot, there's a page of current in-print books
here In order, I'd go for:
Antarctica: the Beautiful - Mike Lucas
Antarctica: The Blue Continent - by David McGonigal, Lynn Woodworth
or,
With Scott to the Pole - Herbert Ponting, illustrated
South with "Endurance": The Antarctic Photographs of Frank Hurley
Of course if you're incredibly rich, there is no other choice than:
Antarctica: Explorer Series, Vol. 1 by Pat Keough & Rosemarie Keough
If money is more of an issue I'd try going to your nearest town and looking in the "remaindered" bookshops - the ones that sell books at a fraction of their original price as they didn't sell in the proper bookshops.
There have been a lot of really good Antarctic books of the type you're asking for produced, but they tend not to last beyond the first printing and so fade into obscurity - I guess the publishers are always looking for something new and there's always someone new arriving from Antarctica with a whole pile of pictures to start a new book off.
