    Re: march of the penguins

    Thanks Pirates.

Sounds like I described above. Lost seals over many hundreds or a few thousands of years getting funnelled the same way and then falling over the same cliff to their eventual death - well quick death I guess if they fell.

Hi! I've just joined in on this last week and yes, this movie is well done.
I've seen it three times and have introduced it other friends who enjoyed it as much. Have you seen it yet?

The new Disney film is called Eight Below see here:

          http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1808750543/web

It's a remake of a little known cult film from a Japanese director Ken Takakura here:

          http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/re...&link_code=as3

I've never seen it - the Japanese one - but the Amazon reviews are pretty glowing and not so long ago it regularly sold for $100 on VHS!

So I've heard, but I've never seen any reference to the actual "true story" other than the claim.

                  Re: march of the penguins

I enjoyed this movie so much I told most of my friends and clients about it.
I give credit to Morgan Freeman for such a professional and perfect narrarator for such a film. And I enjoyed learning about the penquins in this manner. Due to this film I became interested in the Antartica which lead me to this amazing site.
I would like to suggest you watch the movie again and I am implying this to everyone. It really was so very well done. My hats off to the penquins life!

                      Re: march of the penguins

I have to say, it was the most expensive movie I have ever watched. I spent $15 on two tickets, $8 for popcorn and drinks, and then because I was so amazed by what I saw, I went home that night and booked a $30,000 trip to Antarctica for me and my wife.

I will be leaving in about a month to the Weddell Sea to search for emperor penquins. The movie continues to suck money out of me, as I am in the midst of buying camera lenses, memory cards, new mittens and boots, etc.

                      It's great -- I can't wait.

                          Re: march of the penguins

I really admire all of you true Antarcticans..you know, the ones who have enough love for Antarctica to actually withstand the extremely cold conditions and all that. ...I might visit when it's a little warmer....unfortunately (or fortunately for Antractica) it never seems to rise a great deal above zero!!!!! I think I'll stay where I am.....

I love seeing all the pics and "oohing" and "aahhing", and I do admire all the early explorers and appreciate all the work being done by the researchers but it's soooo cold...

                          A humble psr

                            Re: march of the penguins

I can't wait to experience below Sub Zero Temperatures, I don't mix well with the cold, I can tollerate it, but as I'm not particularly a big meaty female, my body temperature is really wierd ! When I'm in bed, I'm really hot, when it';s cold out, I feel it 10 times more. One of the things which is going to be so amazing about stepping foot on Antarctica, is being in these Freezing cold Temperatures. The fact it is 'different' is what makes the experience well worth while and very much exciting IMO ! Bring on the Cold !

I've just ordered 2 Books about Antarctica on Amazon. The first of many, woohoo !
