Rhino Hide Cloth

Tougher than Zambezi twill, rhinohide cloth is an excellent choice where the scales are tipped towards practicality.

With hide-like properties worthy of its namesake, Rhinohide Canvas has the rich texture and sturdy heft deserving of the toughest mammal on the planet. The pure cotton, 10-oz. canvas is most loved for a rich texture that can be seen as well as felt, evidence of canvas's signature interlocking, balanced weave — the strongest conventional weaving method ever devised. The grid-like structure of thick, doubled yarns in the warp is presanded and garment washed to enhance the fabric's visible texture, to soften its considerable heft, and to tighten the fabric's interlock. Rhinohide mellows gracefully and evenly over time, adding to its appeal.

During the early years of U.S. expansion and exploration, cotton canvas nearly identical to Rhinohide was used in everything from clipper ship sails and gold rush expedition tenting to the coverings of westbound Conestoga wagons.
