The icebreaker 'Kapitan Khlebnikov' anchors in the brash ice off Cape Adare, home to the world's largest colony of Adelie Penguins - and my first landfall on the Antarctic continent itself. This shot was taken just before midnight, but with 250,000 breeding pairs of penguins (plus their chicks, all clamouring for food), all around us on the long pebble beach, it was still pretty noisy and smelly!
