We called this "Cathedral Berg" it was there for months in the winter stuck on the bottom of the sea and surrounded by frozen sea ice - so it wasn't going anywhere.
Walking right out to it and staring upwards was a truely awesome experience, that little dark speck is my mate for scale - he's got a similar picture with me standing there.
The stripes in the ice were made when it was part of a glacier, layers of snow built up at different temperatures and so varying amounts of ice and air in the layer.
