Someone once asked me after they'd seen my Signy slides if it was "Always so sunny?". If only they could begin to appreciate the reality! Signy is the cloudiest of all BAS bases and in fact one of the cloudiest places in Antarctica. Sunny days were few and far between therefore so any excuse to get off base on such a day was taken and many pictures resulted.
As can be seen by the pictures of Signy on this site, when the sun did shine, the place became magical and while I didn't regret time off base at the time, I did feel guilty about it if I did it too often and so while I took as much time out to get around as I could I probably missed out too. No regrets though, just glad that I did as much as I did, otherwise this web site would never have been born and the message of how special a place Antarctica is wouldn't be getting out so strongly and to so many people.

| This picture is one of a collection assembled in
2007 on
the 60th anniversary of Signy Island
Base: 60°43'S 045°36'W. Thank you to those who sent their treasured memories of their time in
Antarctica and allowed them to be made into a commemorative cd
and then placed here on the web. My commentary is taken from notes I was sent with the pictures if any. Corrections or additions, please The reunion weekend was 14-16 September 2007. |
