The Laws Glacier, Coronation Island. One rope of three and one rope of two. We had just all got onto the ice and the last man (me in this case) about 20m onto the glacier when there was an almighty "Whump" advancing from the distance and passing under our feet as the whole snow-pack settled just 2 or 3 inches under our weight. The closest I've come to losing control of my sphincters as an adult, it certainly woke us up to the already considerable worry of falling down a crevasse.

| This picture is one of a collection assembled in
2007 on
the 60th anniversary of Signy Island
Base: 60°43'S 045°36'W. Thank you to those who sent their treasured memories of their time in
Antarctica and allowed them to be made into a commemorative cd
and then placed here on the web. My commentary is taken from notes I was sent with the pictures if any. Corrections or additions, please The reunion weekend was 14-16 September 2007. |
