Rob Day is the culprit in his silver and black jacket which I think he got from Bombardier the makers of the skidoos that we used. Rob was inordinately proud of this jacket that as far as I remember he had blagged from a Bombardier representative who had come to BAS in Cambridge once.

He insisted in wearing this jacket all winter at every available opportunity usually to the annoyance of anyone who was there and trying to take photographs and refused to have him in the picture wearing such a thing. As a result there are virtually no photographs of Rob that winter as we all hated his jacket so much. In this setting however I thought it had a certain merit as at least he looked different to the mainly red-clad tourists (on Shingle beach Coronation Island in this instance I believe).

It is also a remarkable picture in that Rob was quite concerned about going off base anywhere at all thinking that: 1- death lay in wait around every corner, 2 - as Signy was so rugged, he may have to get off his skidoo at some point.

This picture is one of a collection assembled in 2007 on the 60th anniversary of Signy Island Base: 60°43'S 045°36'W. Thank you to those who sent their treasured memories of their time in Antarctica and allowed them to be made into a commemorative cd and then placed here on the web.

My commentary is taken from notes I was sent with the pictures if any. Corrections or additions, please

The reunion weekend was 14-16 September 2007.
