Penguins were sometimes captured and held for a while in order to be shipped back to the UK for display in zoos. Some simple feeding experiments were also carried out in these cages. Now days penguins in zoos are bred by the zoos and experiments are carried out in a much less interfering way often without the subjects even knowing that anything is going on.
