Walt Dawson with one of the new generators
©Copyright A.D. Bailey - picture taken 1963
The main job of the diesel mechanic became looking after the generators which ran permanently. Servicing them, changing over from one to another (there were 3 when I was on base) to keep them all in good running order, and when the temperature dropped right down, ensuring that the fuel they ran on didn't start to solidify in the pipe!
