The main job of the diesel mechanic
became looking after the generators which ran permanently. Servicing
them, changing over from one to another (there were 3 when I was on
base) to keep them all in good running order, and when the temperature
dropped right down, ensuring that the fuel they ran on didn't start to
solidify in the pipe!
