Most Antarctic bases are designated as post offices and have a base member who therefore acts as postmaster - usually the Base Commander. As well as domestic post in and out, there is often "tourist post" to deal with either directly from tourists who arrive on cruise ships or from people who send letters down to be franked with an Antarctic postmark and want it to be sent back to them for their collections.

| This picture is one of a collection assembled in
2007 on
the 60th anniversary of Signy Island
Base: 60°43'S 045°36'W. Thank you to those who sent their treasured memories of their time in
Antarctica and allowed them to be made into a commemorative cd
and then placed here on the web. My commentary is taken from notes I was sent with the pictures if any. Corrections or additions, please The reunion weekend was 14-16 September 2007. |
