Making bread on night-watch was one of the very few pleasures of doing night-watch. With foolproof instructions and (by the time I was there) a big hefty machine to do the kneading for you, bread making was something that was easy and had a very satisfying end result.
The more ambitious would then go on to making croissants and brioche for breakfast to earn even brownie points with other base members.
