Seals are very dog-like in many ways and respond in ways that dogs do. Seal mum's often get upset if you approach too closely and standing up, seals show aggression often by lifting their heads up high above other seals and so see our upright stance as aggressive and threatening. If you slowly walk towards them while squatting down, then Mum can often just ignore you while pup shows more interest - but not that much more to be honest!
Notice the yellow moleskin trousers, base stocks of unused microscope stains were put to good use wherever possible.
