This one was grounded and in place for several months, it earned itself the name "Cathedral Berg" due to its imposing shape. Taking a picture from this place was ok, but being the person-for-scale wasn't so great. The ice groaned and creaked and banged around the sea-ice skirt as the tide rose or fell and when the sun was out, the upper parts made similar noises as the ice expanded in the warmth. The lines in the berg are from where the ice was originally laid down as snow when part of a glacier.

| This picture is one of a collection assembled in
2007 on
the 60th anniversary of Signy Island
Base: 60°43'S 045°36'W. Thank you to those who sent their treasured memories of their time in
Antarctica and allowed them to be made into a commemorative cd
and then placed here on the web. My commentary is taken from notes I was sent with the pictures if any. Corrections or additions, please The reunion weekend was 14-16 September 2007. |
