The very thought of doing this today would probably result in someone in Cambridge popping a blood vessel. As it was we enjoyed the adventure and then worried about what might have happened in bed at night (well I did anyway - maybe I was just a wuss).
In 2007 Coronation is considered to be out of the range of Signy boats and so a trip there is no longer possible, the hut at Shingle cove with its supplies has been removed for some official reason, but probably mainly just in case someone gives it a go.
I don't know what boats Signy currently has, but I bet they are a lot more sea-worthy than this underpowered, leaky dinghy that people would take over occasionally on a calm day.

| This picture is one of a collection assembled in
2007 on
the 60th anniversary of Signy Island
Base: 60°43'S 045°36'W. Thank you to those who sent their treasured memories of their time in
Antarctica and allowed them to be made into a commemorative cd
and then placed here on the web. My commentary is taken from notes I was sent with the pictures if any. Corrections or additions, please The reunion weekend was 14-16 September 2007. |
