Off the West coast of Signy, on this occasion, the sea-ice consisted of very rough pack that was stuck together by frozen sea in between the pieces. It meant that you could get out and visit ice-bergs, but it was tough going. Impossible to drive a skidoo over and about equally as awkward whether on foot or ski.
