The winter has been going for some time here as can be seen by the build up of ice along the shore-line, the "ice foot" and now pack ice (the lumpy stuff in the distance) has floated here from elsewhere to calm the sea surface down. In conjunction with falling temperatures, the sea can start to freeze as it is here.
Always a happy event as frozen sea means that instead of getting around our very rugged island on foot alone, we could now go by skidoo or ski and get much further much faster.
