Most pictures of Signy base are taken with the sea and Coronation Island in the background, this is taken with Signy itself in the background. The * is placed at the top of the the "stone chute" which slopes down to sea level to the right at about 45 degrees in the photograph. This had to be climbed every time you went off base when there was no sea-ice as the only "easy" route off the small peninsula on which the base is built. It is as arduous as it looks.
