Men from the Armed Merchant Cruiser HMS Carnarvon castle, a converted cruise liner, was sent South in 1943 to search for possible Japanese or German raiding parties. She called at Deception Island, then moved up to Signy and made a courtesy call to the Argentines at Orcadas.
