Though some artefacts have been taken as souvenirs, there are still many that remain from Scott's 1911-1913 and Shackleton's 1914-1917 expeditions. The hut is preserved like a time capsule, albeit a bit of a scruffy and rusty one by now.
A telephone line was laid between this hut at Cape Evans and Scott's earlier Discovery Hut (1904-1907) at Hut Point which was also used during the later expedition.
