From the sea ice, Mount Discovery on the right and Black Island on the left. Both were discovered by the British National Antarctic Expedition led by captain Scott in 1901-04.
Mount Discovery is a 2,680 m high isolated volcanic cone named after Scott's expedition ship the Discovery.
Black Island is about 12 miles long and projects through the Ross Ice Shelf to a height of 1,040 meters, it is named for its appearance. Black island is mainly ice free and composed chiefly of black volcanic rock.
